About ten years ago, I helped open a restaurant. We needed help with our website and SEO, so we did what any business owner does — Googled it, found a company, and hired them.

Everything they promised us, right up until the end, was a lie. They didn't know what they were doing. After six months of paying them — and believing everything they told us because we didn't know any better — we fired them. Needless to say... It didn't work out.

And I said: screw it. I'll figure this out myself.

So I did. Seminars. Community college classes. Certifications. Late nights going down every rabbit hole I could find. I became genuinely obsessed — not just because I wanted to fix what had gone wrong, but honestly? Because I actually loved it. The curiosity took over. I needed to know the how and the why behind all of it.

While at those seminars, I met two people who were just as deep into it as I was. We kept running into each other, kept having the same conversations, and eventually the idea of starting something together became obvious. One of them had spent his previous career as an underwriter at Google. The algorithm has changed a lot since then — but having someone on the team who understands how Google thinks from the inside still matters.

That's how SERP & Co started.

Not Your Typical Agency Backstory

My background isn't in tech or marketing. I spent years in hospitality — starting as a line cook, then jumping behind the bar one night when the bartender walked out mid-shift. I told my owner I'd made drinks for friends before. How different could it be?

Pretty different, it turns out.

But I figured it out. That led to years of bartending, then management, then running the premium beverage program for an MLS stadium, then consulting for new and struggling bars. I learned how to walk into a business, diagnose what wasn't working, and fix it. That skill set translates directly into what we do now.

I grew up in St. Helens, left for college, spent about a decade in Portland, and eventually came back. The nice thing about running a business in the digital space — you can work from anywhere in the world, as long as I have my laptop and there is an internet connection, we're good.
